The ON (Optimizing Nutrition) to Life Program at the Children’s Cancer Hospital at MD Anderson was created to promote healthy eating habits in pediatric patients and survivors through education, behavioral sciences and innovative research, and is led by Dr. Joya Chandra, Associate Professor of Pediatrics Research. The @TheTable cookbook originated from a group of faculty, staff, parents and community supporters who shared a common vision – to help patients find healthy food options during treatment and into survivorship.

The ON to Life Program and the development of the online cookbook have been supported by funding from the Gerber Foundation, Santa’s Elves Holiday Party (2009—2013), Mr. David Herr, Mrs. Luci Baines Johnson, the James and Lois Archer Foundation, and MD Anderson Children’s Art Project. In addition, a special thanks to volunteer, Carly Rapp, and to graduate student, Maggie Raber, who worked closely with the committee to test recipes and provide photography for many of the dishes.

Currently, our research dietitian, Lisa Wartenberg, is adding to the recipes in the website, teaching classes to pediatric patients on a weekly basis, and regularly updates and manages this page.
